Pella II CRC Announcements for April 12, 2020

APRIL WORSHIP SERVICES:  All in-person worship services and activities are canceled for the month of April.  Streamed worship services will be available every Sunday by 9:30 a.m.  Please join us!

These services help us worship and hear God’s Word each week.  Streaming can be accessed through our Pella 2 Website (pella2crc.org), through our Facebook page (facebook.com/secondcrc), or on our YouTube Channel (bit.ly/Pella2).

NEWSLETTER REQUEST:  If you are graduating (or know someone who is) from eighth grade, high school or college (or other degree) this year, we’re planning the next newsletter and would love to hear from you!  Please contact Ryan Hoekstra (hoekstrateam@iowatelecom.net) and we’ll send you a brief questionnaire to respond to!

OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PELLA II FINANCIALLY:

The Deacons request the congregation to continue to financially support Pella II during this time.  In light of the cancellations, three ways are available to provide financial support:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.
  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration – Pella II Deacons

CHILDREN’S BULLETINS:  Be sure to check the attachments for Children’s Bulletins for two different ages and a page to color.  Also check out activities for children under the CRC News section at the end of the bulletin.

UPDATE #3 FROM THE LE MAHIEU FAMILY:  Our flight back to the U.S. has been delayed, and a new departure time to leave Port Moresby has been tentatively scheduled for April 9.  As the embassy explained, “the plane is conducting multiple missions across the Pacific to repatriate Americans.  We appreciate your patience and understanding if there are additional delays.”

We have been thankful for the unexpected delay as it has given us extra time to ponder the questions, “What should we pack? In the event that we are never able to return to Papua New Guinea what are the things we cherish most as a family?’

In addition to clothes, here is our list of special things that we do not want to leave behind:  Bibles, brand new copy of the Bau storybook Bible, books of our family vacations, Christmas ornaments, art work, written poems and essays from the kids, Photos, letters and postcards from grandparents, Noah’s and Tia’s homemade ukuleles made with our dear Aussie friends, Tia’s thimble collection, homemade birthday, valentine and Mother’s and Father’s Day cards from the kids, PNG artifacts.

And that’s 12 years of memories, relationships, and places that we hold dear in our heart packed into a few suitcases. Yet while these items bring a sort of earthly comfort in the midst of our good-byes we hold them loosely and realize our hope and salvation is in our risen Savior.

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation.  He is my fortress.  I will never be shaken.  Psalm 62:1-2  Wishing you all a blessed Easter! – Doug, Benita, Noah and Tia

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK: I Believe the Son Has Risen – Christians believe that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.  Dig into 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Luke 24:36-48, and Revelation 1:12-18 with Groundwork to examine the details of Christ’s resurrection and remember the crucial, life-changing meaning of this belief.  Listen at GroundworkOnline.com.

KIDS CORNER:  The Miracle of Easter – Jairus and his family experience the very first Holy Week, when Jesus was crucified and raised from the dead.  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to witness the first Easter?   Listen at kidscorner.net.   Download this month’s Kids Corner Easter puzzle and game giveaway The Bible Challenge Activity Book Five, kidscorner.net/activities.

KIDS CORNER AUDIO DRAMA:  Check out Kids Corner’s Bible Stories Podcast, an immersive audio drama series that retells the greatest stories of the Bible!  Choose from 30 stories spanning from Creation through the history of the Early Church, organized chronologically and thematically, each with its own coloring page. Learn more at network.crna.org/childrens-ministry/dramas-telling-greatest-stories-bible

EASTER AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP:  Children learn best through story, so create a special time this week to share the Easter story with the kids in your life.  Use a picture book like The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross: The True Story of why Jesus Died and Rose Again (Good Book Co., 2016) or read stories from Jesus’ ministry, Holy Week, and Easter from a children’s Bible.  Show kids that God’s story is full of hope and joy!

KIDS IN ACTION DURING COVID-19:  Kids Corner wants to create an encouraging and fun video to tell the stories of real kids doing God’s work in the world during COVID-19.  Know someone 18 or younger creating great sidewalk art to cheer up neighbors?  A family sewing hospital masks for the local ER?  A kid who’s leading online worship with music?  Send us your videos and pictures and help us tell their story.  We’ll compile stories and create a video to share the good news of kids serving God during this difficult time.  To start, check out the KC you tube channel at www.youtube.com/c/kidscornertv to see past Kids in Action videos and get an idea of the way we tell stories.  Then check out kidscorner.reframemedia.com/kids-in-action-during-covid-19 for video tips and to learn how to send us your story.
