Pella II CRC Announcements for April 26, 2020

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathy to Ron and Lola Spoelstra on the death of Ron’s sister, Shirley Slagter, on April 15 in Florida.  We rejoice in the hope of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.

MAY WORSHIP SERVICES:   Based on guidance from Marion County and Pella City Officials, we are cancelling all in-person worship services in May. We will continue to have weekly online services available by 9:30 a.m. on Sunday on our Pella 2 Website (pella2crc.org), our Facebook page (facebook.com/secondcrc), and our YouTube Channel (bit.ly/Pella2).  Let us stay connected and encourage one another in this time of isolation with phone calls, emails, texts, and notes. And remember the Lord’s promise, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5).

The Deacons request the congregation to continue to financially support Pella II during this time.  In light of the cancellations, three ways are available to provide financial support:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.
  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration – Pella II Deacons

ORGAN UPDATE:  Earlier this year, we announced that a potential buyer came to see the organ first-hand.  This same buyer has now expressed interest in purchasing the organ.  The buyer and church leadership are working on specifics of a purchase agreement.  As part of the agreement, Pella II would retain the organ until mid-April or May of 2021. This is around one month prior to our June 1, 2021, closing date on the sale of the building.  We feel that the buyer would be a good home for the organ, and that it would continue to be used in worshiping God.  Updates will be communicated as developments warrant. – Pella II Governing Board

TODAY DEVOTIONALS AVAILABLE:  The May/June Today Devotionals have been placed in the enclosure of the elevator entrance so please pick up your copy any time.  These devotionals can also be found digitally online each day at www.todaydevotional.com.

CHILDREN’S BULLETINS:  Be sure to check the attachments for Children’s Bulletins with activities for two different ages and a page to color.

ADVANCE NOTICE:  Pella Christian Grade School has tentatively scheduled the Annual Society Meeting for Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m.  See the school newsletter for details.

FROM THE PECKHAM’S:  We miss our students!  We regularly had priceless times of companionship watching the sunrise and praying for each other but we still see our students by means of Zoom.

Thank you to all who sent birthday greetings.  If you did not know that April 7 is my birthday and our son Joe’s, that’s fine.  It was a great day, even though Nancy got too cold in the rain and cut down our bike ride from twelve to three miles.  We have another April Birthday!  Ashriel Azennith Peckham was born to Joe and Jess on April 9 in San Luis Obispo, CA.  They are doing well.

Nancy serves our Saddleback Mobilodge Park as Editor.  The group here has discovered “Mata Elang” “Eagle Eyes”.  Nancy can even find a mistake in a language she has not yet studied.  Now she is the editor of the neighborhood “Scuttlebutt” which has been printed monthly for more than fifty years.  Recently a neighbor called her just to say that last month’s issue was the best ever.  She is amazing!

Prayer Requests:

  1. Computer repair.
  2. On-line teaching: some of the students and teachers and parents need patience.
  3. Blessing neighbors: there are wonderful interactions from a safe distance.
  4. Health: especially for Dr. Andy in Danville, PA.

Keep on blessing everyone around you. – Lovingly, Lloyd and Nancy

GROUNDWORK: I Believe the Son Will Judge – The Apostles’ Creed declares that Christ “will come to judge the living and the dead.”  Study Mark 13:26-27, Acts 1:11, 2 Peter 3:3-13, and 2 Corinthians 5:10 with Groundwork to discover why believers don’t need to fear Judgment Day and what it means for how we live today.  Listen at GroundworkOnline.com.

KIDS CORNER: Just Follow – Liz and Spike ask tough questions about Christianity, Grandpa responds by giving them an adventure map to follow.  Why a map?  How does this map help answer questions about following Jesus?   Listen at kidscorner.net.   Download KC’s 10 Commandments Bookmark to help with your Bible reading and daily devotions (kidscorner.net/activities).

AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – Count your blessings as a household.  When something happens for which you are grateful, write it down or draw it on a piece of paper.  Collect these blessings in a bowl or jar, and at the end of the year reflect on the many ways God has blessed you — and blessed others through you!

FAMILY FIRE – Family Fire is an online community exploring Spirit-led family, marriage, parenting, in-laws, blended families, and intimacy.  Find encouraging articles and devotions at familyfire.com.  Subscribe for regular email updates and connect with our Family Fire community on Facebook.
