We rejoice at the birth of a healthy boy, David Alexander, born August 21 to Dave and Ashley Voss.  We thank God for this great gift!

PARENTS:  A live video with audio of our service is being projected on a large screen TV in the Fellowship Hall in the basement.  If you have a restless child or an infant who needs attention, please feel free to go downstairs.  You’ll be able to watch and hear everything that’s happening in the Worship Center.  Even if you’re not a parent and just need to move around, you are welcome to come down and watch as well.

BUILDING PLEDGES:  So far in 2020 we have received $89,500 in pledges, leaving $130,000 in pledges remaining for the year.  We have also received $66,000 in excess of pledged amounts toward our $250,000 matching contribution.  As we approach the end of the year, we request that you please review your pledged amount either in Breeze, or by contacting a deacon.

ADVANCE NOTICES:

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP will begin meeting on September 9 at 1:30 p.m.

GEMS:  All girls 2nd grade through 8th grade are invited to join us for another fun year of GEMS!  Our program will start September 9 and run every other Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m.  For more information and to sign up please contact Katie Magnussen at kathrynagnussen@gmail.com.

CHURCH  PICNIC:  The annual church picnic is being planned for September 20 at Caldwell Park.  More details will follow.

CHURCH SCHOOL:  Tentatively we are planning to begin Church School on September 27 from 10:45-11:05 a.m.  We are taking special precautions to make sure children and teachers maintain adequate social distancing.

PELLA CORPORATION MATCHING GIFTS:  Pella Corporation’s Rolscreen Foundation has approved our building project as a qualified matching gift program for employees and retirees!  Gifts given between June 9, 2020, and June 9, 2023, will be eligible.  Please contact Corey Magnussen for additional information.

OFFERING:  Our offering today will go to the “International Justice Mission”.  Our offering September 6 will QR Codego to “Rehoboth Christian School”.   Loose change and undesignated checks go towards the mission or organization of the week.  If you desire to contribute to Second Christian Reformed Church and its ministries, simply write “Pella 2” on the memo line of your check. You can also give online by scanning the QR code to the right or by going online to pella2crc.breezechms.com/give/online.

For those not in attendance for any reason, the below options will remain available:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.
  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

WORLD RENEW – DRS RESPONDING TO DERECHO IN IOWA – World Renew DRS Regional Volunteer Managers Pat and Rich Grasman traveled through Tama County and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last week to assess needs and make contacts, including members of Peace CRC and Pastor Gary Brouwers, after a derecho storm hit the state on August 10. DRS staff plan to travel to Iowa soon to determine the role for 1-day volunteers. If you live in Iowa and are interested in assisting with the World Renew DRS response, please contact Chris Gibson at 800-848-5818 or email cgibson@worldrenew.net. DRS is accepting donations for the derecho storm response in Iowa.
