We wish a happy birthday to Ray Veenstra who will celebrate his 85th birthday on December 29, and pray for God’s continued blessings.

“Thank you to a kind and caring church family for the many expressions of sympathy we received at the passing of Lawrence.  Former Pastor Dan Brouwer once said in a sermon — the Lord is with us on our mountaintop experiences and carries us through the valleys.  What a blessing.” – Mary Ann, Gary, Sandi, Lowell & Julie Vander Molen and families and Cathryn Van Ee

CHRISTMAS DAY:  We will meet for Christmas worship on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate our Savior’s birth.

NAME CHANGE:  The Name Change Task Force thanks the congregation for their submissions regarding a new name for Pella II.  After careful consideration we have narrowed down the list to four possible options.  A letter was placed in your church mailbox listing these names as well as how to give the committee thoughts and feedback on the options.  Your thoughts about the options are due today.”

CHILDREN’S CHOIR’s (1st-6th grade) next rehearsal will be Wednesday, January 8, 6:30-6:55 p.m., to sing in worship on Sunday, January 19.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTALISTS:  Please contact Barbara Boertje DeVries for opportunities to play in worship!

FROM THE DEACONS:

Year-End Giving Deadline:  The last Sunday to put your Pella II offerings toward 2019 giving is December 29.  The deacons will be working on year-end count and preparing members’ giving receipts after that date.  Thank you!

This year we will be using Breeze to provide 2019 giving statements via email.  We know this is not everyone’s preferred method so we have placed a selection sheet in your mailbox for you to indicate your desire for a printed copy or digital copy.  Please return these to a deacon or the offering plate before the end of the year.  Contact Corey Magnussen with questions.

FUTURE PM WORSHIP SERVICES: The Councils of Calvary, Connect, Faith and Second have decided to begin worshiping together in the evenings each Sunday at Calvary CRC beginning December 29.  Calvary provides nursery, video-streaming, and easy handicap accessibility.  Each congregation will contribute to preaching, music, and planning.  This arrangement will continue at least through August 2020, and may continue longer upon review by the Councils of the four congregations.

LIFE GROUPS:  We will begin new Life Groups at the end of January for all who are interested.  Life groups are small groups that faithfully meet together to share life, study God’s Word, support one another, and serve others. Those involved in Life Groups have experienced encouragement, spiritual growth, and deepened relationships.  More information will be coming after the first of the year.

ADVANCE NOTICES:

PCHS Special Society Meeting:  Pella Christian High Society members are invited to a special society meeting on Thursday, January 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the PCHS auditorium.  The purpose of the meeting will be to report on our strategic work from the past year.  The agenda will include a vote regarding a modification in board member elections, information about a Pilot Spanish Immersion program, and the latest steps in implementation of our strategic road map.

HOSTS NEEDED:  The Dordt University Chamber Orchestra will perform a concert at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, in the Pella Christian High School Vermeer Auditorium and are in need of host families for that evening.  Host families would take the students home from the concert, provide a place for the night, serve breakfast, and bring them back to school on Saturday morning so that they can depart for their next destination.  If you are interested in hosting students or would like more information, please contact Tim Van Voorst at vanvoorstt@pceagles.org.

ADVENT AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP –  During Advent, we light the candle of Love.  Jesus’ life, ministry, death, and resurrection were all characterized by love.  In return, we are to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  And love your neighbor as yourself.”  Consider how your family or household might do those things more fully in the coming year.

CHRISTMAS DAY AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – Today we light the Christ candle to remind ourselves that the light of Christ has come into the world.  Light a Christ candle in your own home today as you celebrate.  Consider lighting a candle at each mealtime in the coming week (or year!) to remind you that Jesus is always with you.
