OFFERINGSJune 21: Cary Christian Center;  June 28:  Crossroads of Pella;  July 5: World Renew

TODAY:  We welcome Rev. Dustin DeBoef who will be preaching this morning.  Dusty and his wife, Dawn, are the founders of Calvary’s Legacy Children’s Home in Legaspi City, Philippines (see the-legacy-home.org).

COMMUNION:  Communion is scheduled for the June 21 service.  Individual pre-filled and pre-sealed juice and wafer containers will be used, instead of the traditional passing of the elements, for health safety reasons.  For those not attending the June 21 in-person service, you may partake using your own juice and bread while participating in the Communion service via live stream.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathy to Ed Uitermarkt on the death of his sister-in-law, Delores Spoelstra, on June 5.  We rejoice in the hope of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.

We wish a happy birthday to Dena Bokhoven who will celebrate her 90th birthday on June 15 and pray for God’s continued blessings.

SUMMER MUSIC MINISTRY:  Even in the absence of Choir, anyone comfortable singing or playing a solo and/or in a small (“socially distanced”) group is encouraged to let Barbara Boertje DeVries know.  We are a “Psalm 150 People”, a congregation to whom God has generously given many musical talents, so let’s continue the theme: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Praise the Lord!

COUNCIL will meet on Monday, June 22.

OFFERING:  Our offering today will go to “Pella Christian Grade School Tuition Assistance (TAP Fund)”.  Our offering June 21 will go to “Cary Christian Center”.   Loose change and undesignated checks go towards the mission or organization of the week.  If you desire to contribute to Second Christian Reformed Church and its ministries, simply write “Pella 2” on the memo line of your check. You can also give online by scanning the QR code to the right or by going online to pella2crc.breezechms.com/give/online.

For those not in attendance for any reason, the below options will remain available:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.
  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

Thank you again for your continued support. – Pella II Deacons

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Our church is again partnering with the Pella Food Shelf in providing school supplies for local children going back to school.  Because of the challenging time for purchasing items this year, they suggest a cash donation.  If you wish to help purchase school supplies for needy children, please place your donation in an envelope marked “School Supplies” and put it in the offering plate, or mail it to church with “Attn: School Supplies” on the envelope. This needs to be received by July 12.

PCHS SOCIETY MEETING:  Please join us for the annual PCHS Society Meeting on Monday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting will be held virtually at this Zoom link:   https://dordt.zoom.us/j/99195938734.  Note that voting will be done per device so each Society member will need their own device in order to cast a vote.  The 2020-21 PCHS Budget will be presented, a report from Principal Dan Van Kooten will be shared, and voting for board nominees will take place.  2020-21 Board nominees are:

District I (Calvary, Connect, Covenant, Faith, Pella II):  Wes Van Maanen, Duane Vos
District III (Newton, Prairie City, Sully): Rick Fopma, Julie Van Wyk
District IV (Cedar, Oskaloosa Bethel, Oskaloosa I): Lisa De Bruin, Irv De Bruin (2nd term)
District At-large:  Mike Vermeer (no second candidate could be found)

OPEN HOUSE:  Pella Christian High School will be recognizing Larry Hessing and Dan Van Kooten at an Open House Saturday, June 20 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the school commons.  The public is invited to attend as we safely celebrate Larry’s retirement and say farewell to Dan following his 23 years of dedicated service to PCHS.

HOPE UNITED FUNDGiving Financial Hope to Families of South Central Iowa Christian Schools:  As a united group of Christian Schools, we rejoice in the hope we have in Christ to see us through this pandemic, but also recognize the financial strain many of our families may be enduring.  For this reason we are uniting together to raise funds for additional tuition assistance during this uncertain time.  Visit https://tinyurl.com/HopeUnitedFund to support Christian School families in South Central Iowa.  You can select a specific school or give a gift to be divided among all participating schools. Options are available to donate by check, credit card or bank account. Please consider supporting the Hope United Fund financially. We appreciate your prayers for our schools and the students and families who have invested in a Christ-centered education.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER:  Pella Christian High School is in need of a part-time Special Education Instructor.  This position is responsible for providing instruction to students in specially designed instruction based on individual IEP goals.  This applicant should be someone who is organized, resourceful, caring, and  most importantly, a mission appropriate teacher.  If you have any questions, please contact HS Vice Principal, Greg Wojczynski at wojczynskig@eagles.org.

PEORIA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL is looking for a part-time assistant to help in the Pre-K/Kindergarten classroom for the 2020-21 school year for three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) from 12:30-3:30 p.m.  If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact Jeremy Copenhaver (principal@peoriachr.org)

UPDATE FROM JOEL HUYSER:  We asked you to pray for Hultner Estrade, the director of the Nehemiah Center, who was very ill with COVID. He is well on his way to recovery.  The family of Rev. Freddy Ordonez, who died of COVID, is also recovering. They express their gratefulness for your prayers.  Please continue to pray for the people in Nicaragua.  Many pastors and leaders in the Nehemiah Center network have died.

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK:  Why, God, Why?  Why do we suffer?  Does God cause bad things to happen?  If not, why does He allow them?  How can we maintain faith in God when everything is going wrong?  Study Job 1-3 with Groundwork to see how the story of Job helps us wrestle with one of life’s most difficult questions: the problem of suffering. AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – This summer watch for how God is revealed in creation.  Read Psalm 148 for inspiration, then use your five senses when you explore parks, forests and beaches.  Admire the symmetry of a flower, strength of a tree or pattern of a shell.  Let the kids in your life teach you about childlike wonder!
