OPENING AND GREETING

Welcome and Announcements…………………………………………………………………………………….

Call to Worship………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Leader: “Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ through the working of the Holy Spirit.” This is the greeting of Christ, who arose from the grave.

All:   Jesus died and rose that we might have eternal life.  We give him thanks!

Leader: This same Christ has ascended to the Father.

All:   He ascended that we might experience God’s presence and power. Praise him!

*Opening Prayer and Mutual Greeting…………………………………………………………………………

PRAISE TO GOD

*Sing…………………………………………. Jesus Shall Reign…………………………………………………..

*We Profess What We Believe – (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 46, 47 & 49)………………..

Leader: What do you mean by saying “He ascended to heaven?”

All:   That Christ, while his disciples watched, was lifted up from earth to heaven and will be there for our good until he comes again to judge the living and the dead.

Leader: But isn’t Christ with us until the end of the world as he promised us?

All:   Christ is truly human and truly God.  In his human nature Christ is not now on earth; but in his divinity, majesty, grace and Spirit he is not absent from us for a moment.

Leader: How does Christ’s ascension to heaven benefit us?

All:   First, he pleads our cause in heaven in the presence of his Father.

Second, we have our own flesh in heaven; a guarantee that Christ our head will take us, his members, to himself in heaven.

Third, he sends his Spirit to us on earth as a further guarantee.  By the Spirit’s power we make the goal of our lives, not earthly things, but the things above where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

Preparing to Receive the Bread and Cup

The bread that we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.

We who are many are one body, for we all share the same loaf.

The cup for which we give thanks is a sharing in the blood of Christ.

The cup that we drink is our participation in the blood of Christ.

Communion

Invitation

Congregation of Jesus Christ, the Lord has prepared his table for all who love him and trust in him alone for their salvation.  All who are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to him as Lord are now invited to come with gladness to the table of the Lord.

Holy Father, in thanks for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, in the joy of his resurrection, in the hope of his coming again, we present ourselves a living sacrifice and come to the table of our Lord.

The gifts of God for the people of God.

TODAY: Welcome to Worship!  We welcome all who worship with us today!

Fellowship coffee is served downstairs at 9:00 a.m.

This morning we look forward to partaking of the Lord’s Supper.  We joyfully anticipate receiving the benefits of Christ’s salvation as we receive the bread and cup in faith.  If you have put your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and are seeking to faithfully follow him, you are welcome to join us at the table.

We invite visitors and members of the congregation to a Fellowship Coffee downstairs after the morning worship service.

At 6:00 p.m. Faith CRC and Connect Church (formerly First CRC) will join us at our church for a service of musical praise, based on Psalm 150, by many of our congregation’s talented singers and instrumentalists of all ages. This will be a special time of worship to invite your friends and extended family to!

NEXT SUNDAY: At 6:00 p.m. Faith CRC and Connect Church (formerly First CRC) will join us to enjoy another service of musical praise at our church, featuring an organ recital of sacred music by Davis Folkerts, and singing by the congregation and our Adult Choir.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathies to Pearl Van Waardhuizen and Ruth Van Hal on the death of their sister-in-law, Harriett Bogaards, on May 25.  We thank God that we may entrust all of our loved ones to His eternal care.

We wish a happy birthday to Bill Schimmel, who will celebrate his 96th birthday on June 4, and to John Van Zee, who will celebrate his 88th birthday on June 9, and pray for God’s continued blessings.

“Thank you for the phone calls, good wishes, and beautiful cards I received for my 92nd birthday.  The Lord has been good to us.” – Tom De Vries

MONDAY:  Perk Up will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Happy Joes.  All ladies are welcome.

WEDNESDAY:  Adult Choir rehearsal, 6:00-6:40 p.m. mostly for the June 9 evening service with Davis Folkerts.

FRIDAYP.E.T. Build Day:  Please join us at PET Leighton on June 7 for our annual PET build day.  We plan on building all day, with lunch and coffeetime provided, and possibly supper if it goes that long.  Sign-up sheets are on the table downstairs for workers and for cookie and bar donations.

FRUIT OF THE SOIL:  Rhubarb will be available again today downstairs. – Robert Rus

ANGEL TREE NOTE:  Angel Tree is just around the corner.  I am asking for three volunteers each day to help me with crafts again on June 18-20, from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  Contact Carla Nieuwsma at 319-246-2216, email cjnews3@gmail.com or sign up downstairs.  Thanks!

LIFE GROUPS:  This fall, Pella 2 will begin Life Groups.  Life Groups are small groups of 8-12 people that faithfully meet together to share life, study God’s Word, support one another, and serve others.  This summer we will run a pilot Life Group, led by Pastor Paul. For this group we are looking for people who would be open to leading a Life Group in the near future. If married, we’d like for husband and wife to attend together if possible. This initial group will include Life Group leadership training and prayer ministry training. We’ll hold an information meeting on Sunday, June 9, at 3:30 p.m. at the parsonage. We’ll begin weekly meetings (same time and place) on June 23. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Paul by email (plbradford@me.com) or phone (641-628-3309 or 248-824-3662). We’re excited about this new venture for Pella 2!

SERVE OPPORTUNITY:  The Family Ministries Team is planning a “Labor Day” event to kick off our fall youth programs and invite families in the community to come visit our church and see what we have to offer.  Some ideas include bounce houses, yard games, booths with games and information about our programs and, of course, delicious food.  If you’d like to be part of the group planning this event, please email kathrynmagnussen@gmail.com.

FROM BRENDA HUGEN:  We are headed to Sierra Leone June 8-17 and requesting prayers for our trip.  I am headed back and this year taking Taryn (3rd trip) and Ty (his first trip) along with my nephews Kenyon & Drew Geetings (their first trip also).  I am so excited to share this experience with them.  Watching someone experience it for the first time is always so neat.  It’s different for everyone and each trip is unique too.  We are the only ones from Iowa, the rest of the team is from Nebraska.  Please pray for safety in travel, good relationships among our team, chances to witness along the way (and the courage to do so) and for all the children and adults we will be working with in Sierra Leone.  We do not have our itinerary yet, but the one constant is spending time and working with the children at the orphanage.  Please pray for the children that they can feel Christ’s love thru us and that they know they are worthy and not beat down by the lies of Satan whispering they are worthless.  Please pray for the Aunties and Uncles that work at the orphanage as they provide a daily model of a Christian’s life.  They are very important role models for the children.  Thank you so much for your support over the years.  We appreciate your prayers while we are gone and also your prayers for Troy and Teah as they remain home.  We cannot wait to be Christ’s hands and feet in Sierra Leone! –

To whom much is given, much is expected.  Thank you, Brenda, Taryn and Ty Hugen

FREEDOM HOUSE is having their 3rd birthday party and a silent auction on Friday, June 7, from 6:00-8:30 p.m., at the Caldwell Shelter House.  There will be supper, games, music and more!  See the bulletin board for details.

CHRISTIAN OPPORTUNITY CENTER’S GOLF CLASSIC is Friday, June 7, at Bos Landen Golf Club.  Join us on this extraordinary year as we celebrate 50 years of proving what’s possible! In 1969 parents of five children with disabilities joined together with a shared dream that their children have access to quality Christian education close to home.  Their dream is still alive today. All this would not be possible without the continued support of our community and events like the COC Golf Classic. For more information visit www.christianopportunity.org or call 641-628-1162.

BACON FEST FOR HAITI! is Saturday, June 8, 4:00-8:00 p.m. on the Prairie City square, sponsored by Prairie City CRC. All proceeds go for the pig farming program at United Christians International in Haiti (http://ucihaiti.org).  There will be a competition for the best bacon recipe, and your vote counts.  Tickets are $10 which gets you a sample at every booth and all the side items.  There will be games and other activities.  Join us June 8 to raise some bacon to equip the Haitian community with the ability and opportunity to raise bacon.  Questions – prairiecitycrc@gmail.com or 515-994-2184.

ADVANCE NOTICES:

818 Forward with Faith is participating in a fundraiser and tip night at Culver’s on June 10.  Please plan to join us at Culver’s from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and support 818FWF!

Perhaps you’ve heard about the Restart House that has opened near Pella. This is your chance to find out more about it! You are invited to attend an Open House on Saturday, June 15, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at 1428 Eaton Avenue, Pella. The Restart House is a ministry of WTL Ministries (The Way, The Truth, The Life Ministries) which is an inter-denominational ministry to prisoners in the state of Iowa. The mission of this organization is to evangelize and disciple those in prison and walk alongside them as they transition as returning citizens to society. The Restart House plays a key role in this transition and serves as a safe haven and a buffer between prison life and life on the outside. Resident directors, Paul and Haley Abbott, are eager to welcome the first residents very soon and invite everyone to check out the house and learn about the ministry. Check out our website at www.thewaythetruth.life.

The Fourth Annual Heartland Gospel Hymn Sing will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 6:00 p.m. at First Reformed Church.  Please see the poster downstairs for more info, including how you are welcome to join the mass Choir for that evening.
