BAPTISM OF LOGAN LUKE NIEUWSMA

PREPARATION

What does baptism signify?

By it we are received into God’s church and set apart from all other people and religions, that we may be dedicated entirely to him, bearing his mark and sign.  It also witnesses to us that he will be our God forever, since he is our gracious Father.

What else does it mean?

Baptism signifies to us that just as water washes away the dirt of the body when it is poured on us and also is seen on the body of the baptized, so too the blood of Christ does the same thing internally, in the soul, by the Holy Spirit.

Should our children be baptized too?

Yes, we believe our children ought to be baptized and sealed with the sign of the covenant, as little children were circumcised in Israel on the basis of the same promises made to our children.  Christ has shed his blood no less for washing the little children of believers than he did for adults.

Is the significance of baptism, then, similar to circumcision?

Yes, baptism does for our children what circumcision did for the Jewish people. That is why Paul calls baptism the “circumcision of Christ.”

PRESENTATION

PROFESSION OF FAITH

   Questions for the parents.

   Question for the congregation.

.. Do you promise to love, encourage, and support Luke, Jeanetta, and Logan by teaching the gospel of God’s love, by being an example of Christian faith and character, and by giving the strong support of God’s family in fellowship, prayer, and service?

.. Congregation:  We do.

Affirmation of Faith – the Apostles’ Creed

.. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

   Let us bless Logan together:

Congregation:  The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.  Amen.

TRANSFORM 2019:  The Well is excited to hold the second annual Transform event on May 6-11, 2019.  Last year 25 projects were finished in Marion County by 250 volunteers!  How neat it was to see relationships built, homes restored, parks cleaned, trees planted and our communities connected through service.  We truly believe lives are transformed when we put our faith into action and serve.  We hope to accomplish even more this year with an emphasis on the Pella and Knoxville areas.  We are looking for project leaders, projects to complete, and volunteers!  If you’d like to volunteer to be part of the transformation for one day, a morning, the entire week, alone, or as a team, fill out a volunteer profile for Transform at thewelliowa.org/acts/transform.  See bulletin board for more information.

LENT FAMILY FAITH FORMATION TIP: As another exercise in self-examination, read Galatians 5:22-23 as a family this week.  Talk about which fruits of the Spirit are easier for each of you to practice, and which are harder.  Then pray for each other, asking the Spirit to grow those fruits in your family.
