Council wants everyone to take time to celebrate Mother’s Day and will not have a Council Chat this week.  There will be one after the service next week, May 20.

Prayer Time in the north tower room at 10:50 a.m.  Please join us as we meet for a short time of prayer for our church and any other needs.  If not able to do so, you may put your prayer request in the box on the back table.  God loves to hear His children pray.

You are invited to attend a Harp Gathering featuring eight harpists in the Gathering Space of Second Reformed Church today at 3:00 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m. we will join First CRC at their church for worship.  Pastor Jack Vanden Heuvel will be preaching on Lord’s Day 5 & 6, Jesus: The Perfect Mediator.  The offering is for GEMS International.

Next Sunday morning the congregation will be blessed with the joy of witnessing the baptism of Rhett Joseph Nieuwsma, son of Levi and April Nieuwsma.  May God be praised for His covenant faithfulness!

At 6:00 p.m. we will join First CRC and Faith CRC at Faith CRC for worship.  Pastor Ryan Faber will be preaching.  The offering will be for Bethany Christian Services.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We wish a happy birthday to Bill Stursma who will celebrate his 89th birthday on May 15 and pray for God’s continued blessings

MONDAY:  Perk Up will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Happy Joes.  All ladies are welcome.

TUESDAY:  The annual Pella Christian High instrumental Pops Concert will be held on May 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.  This year, the band will be performing several favorites, including “Hollywood Milestones” and “Bugs Bunny’s Greatest Hits” and many more.  This is a great event for multiple generations and the whole family.  Free popcorn and ice cream sundaes!!

WEDNESDAY:  Children’s Choir Rehearsal, 6:30-6:55 p.m.

Adult Choir Rehearsal, 7:00-8:30 p.m.

SATURDAY:  The Pella Christian High 78th Annual Commencement Exercises will take place on May 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the PCHS gymnasium.  The address will be given by Mrs. Lois Vermeer, and the 2018 class representative will be Mara Juffer.

ENJOY SINGING?  If you feel a “nudge” to sing in the Adult Choir, please join us this Wednesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m.  See Barbara Boertje DeVries or any choir member if you need a little encouragement!

THANK YOU:  Pastor Jack and Karen want to thank all involved in supplying all we need in the parsonage.  It’s very comfortable and bright.  We realize most of it was here for the previous pastor and wife but we just wanted to thank you.

THANK YOU to the volunteers who parked cars over Tulip Time at Pella II, and for those who utilized the reserved and grass parking spots for an excellent missions fundraiser.

UPDATE FROM THE COUNCIL:  On April 9, there was a special Congregational Meeting held with a vote regarding the sale of the church building and land associated with it. The vote passed. Because of this vote passing, another vote was held on April 30 regarding purchase of land for a new church location. The vote passed to purchase land at the end of West 12th Street in Pella (North of Recker Dental) to be used as the site for a new church.

COMMUNION DATE:  The date of our next celebration of Communion has been changed to June 10, instead of June 3.

FROM COUNCIL:

At their requests, the memberships of Mike and Susan, Ian and Clare Vander Molen have been transferred to Third Reformed Church in Pella, the membership of Tom Van Woerkom has been transferred to Bethany Reformed Church in Des Moines, a statement of membership for Zach and Carissa, Hunter, Tyson and Kyndall Vander Linden has been sent to Federated Fellowship in Pella, and a statement of  membership for Lindsey (Pierson) Palmer has been sent to Trinity Church in Holdrege, Nebraska.  We wish them God’s richest blessings in their new church homes.

P.E.T. BUILD DAYS:  Please join us at PET Leighton on Saturday, June 2, 8:00 a.m.-12 noon, or on Friday, June 8, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., for our annual PET build days.  There will be opportunities for painting, assembly, packaging or woodworking for all ages.  Feel free to come and go as you please. A sign-up sheet is on the table downstairs. We look forward to seeing you there as we help give the gift of mobility!

The Pella Christian Grade School Society meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 22 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  This meeting will be preceding the middle school choir concert that will begin at 7:00 p.m.  The annual meeting will include a 2017-2018 year in review, recognition of staff members reaching an employment milestone and recognizing staff who are leaving the system, approval of the 2018-2019 general budget and election of board members to fill five positions on the school board.   Information regarding the board nominees can be viewed at this link: https://tinyurl.com/y9nu8hcw

Pella Christian Grade School Graduation: Everyone is invited to join the Class of 2018 eighth grade for the graduation ceremony on Friday, May 25 at 5:45 p.m.  The ceremony will be held in the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School.  Sarah Gritters and Caleb Belzer will be the eighth grade class speakers.  Rev. Douglas Barnes will address the eighth grade students.  His message is entitled “Leading the Saints in Serving the Lord.”  Forty graduates will be recognized.  Eighth grade class of 2018 has selected the class verse of 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Retirement Open House:  You are invited to attend an open house for Jan Blunck and Larry Eggink on Sunday, May 27, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the commons area at PCHS.  We will celebrate Jan’s 27 total years of teaching, all at PCHS, and Larry’s 30 years at PCHS and total of 43 career teaching years as they retire this year.

You are invited to a Memorial Day Service at the Peoria Cemetery on Monday, May 28, at 9:00 a.m.  Speaker will be Senator Ken Rozenboom.  Please bring your lawn chairs.  Homemade cinnamon rolls, juice, and coffee will be served after the 30-minute service.  In case of inclement weather, location will be the Peoria Gym.

Come “Blaze the Trails” with Lake View Camp on Saturday, June 2, and help raise funds to send kids to camp this summer!  The morning will include a 5K Run/Walk; 5K Adventure Run with challenges, obstacles, and MUD; and a free mini-adventure run for kids.  Fun for the whole family!  Registration and more information available at www.lakeviewconference.com.

PCGS CUSTODIAN POSITION:   Pella Christian Grade School is seeking a part-time custodian for three hours a day.  This position will work three hours each evening or morning following a school day.  There are no additional responsibilities during summer breaks or days that school is not in session.  The candidate will work under the supervision of PCGS custodian, Kevin Stursma.  The candidate can choose the three-hour window in between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

PCHS CUSTODIAN POSITION:  Pella Christian High School is currently searching for a morning custodian for 4-5 hours per day.  Please contact Principal Dan Van Kooten at 628-4440 or vankootend@pceagles.org for more information.

SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS CHALLENGE:  Pella Christian Grade School has a challenge for new gifts to be given toward the Soaring to New Heights fundraising project.  Any new gifts given between now and the last day of school on May 25 will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous donor.  Please fill out and turn in a donation form to have your new donation matched. With roughly $10.9 million pledged to our campaign, we’re only $100,000 away from completing phase three of the project. This is an amazing opportunity for us to close out phase three, and get a huge jump-start on phase four, the final phase of the building project.  Thank you to the over six hundred fifty donors who have already given to the project. LAKE VIEW CAMP PRAYER SERVICE:  Everyone is invited to Lake View Camp on Sunday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. for a special service led by Joe Brummel to pray for the summer camping season as well as the work beginning on the new camp facilities. The camp will open at 2:00 p.m. for those who would like to explore the camp property or take a tour. Refreshments provided by Oskaloosa 1st CRC will be offered following the service as well as more property tours. This will be held outdoors so bring a lawn chair for seating.
