This morning the congregation is blessed with the joy of witnessing the baptism of Rhett Joseph Nieuwsma, son of Levi and April Nieuwsma and brother of Liam and Jack.  May God be praised for His covenant faithfulness!

The children will be invited to the front for the baptism.

We invite all visitors and all members of the congregation to a Fellowship Coffee downstairs immediately after the morning worship service.

Council Chat will be held in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.

TUESDAY:  The Pella Christian Grade School Society meeting will be held on May 22 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  This meeting will be preceding the middle school choir concert that will begin at 7:00 p.m.  The annual meeting will include a 2017-2018 year in review, recognition of staff members reaching an employment milestone and recognizing staff who are leaving the system, approval of the 2018-2019 general budget and election of board members to fill five positions on the school board.   Information regarding the board nominees can be viewed at this link: https://tinyurl.com/y9nu8hcw

Latino Feast 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Faith CRC.  Menu:  a chicken-rice hot dish (arroz a la valenciana), rice and beans (gallo pinto), corn, cookies and ice cream. Free-will donation.  All proceeds will support the work of Faith Church’s sister churches in Chinandega, Nicaragua.

FRIDAY:  Everyone is invited to join the PCGS Class of 2018 eighth grade for the graduation ceremony on May 25 at 5:45 p.m.  The ceremony will be held in the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School.  Sarah Gritters and Caleb Belzer will be the eighth grade class speakers.  Rev. Douglas Barnes will address the eighth grade students.  His message is entitled “Leading the Saints in Serving the Lord.”  Forty graduates will be recognized.  Eighth grade class of 2018 has selected the class verse of 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

MEN:  Any men interested in singing in a Men’s Ensemble for next Sunday are invited to practice with us this Wednesday, 8:00-8:30 p.m.

ANOTHER SINGING OPPORTUNITY:  Singers are invited to join in a Choir (with singers from 1st and Faith CRC’s) on June 24, for our 6:00 p.m. joint worship service, held in our sanctuary.  Come to our rehearsal on Sunday, June 10, at 5:10 p.m.!

P.E.T. BUILD DAYS:  Please join us at PET Leighton on Saturday, June 2, 8:00 a.m.-12 noon, or on Friday, June 8, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., for our annual PET build days.  There will be opportunities for painting, assembly, packaging or woodworking for all ages.  Feel free to come and go as you please. A sign-up sheet is on the table downstairs. We look forward to seeing you there as we help give the gift of mobility!

FROM THE DEACONS:  The deacons would like to thank the congregation for their support of the Christian Education Fund.  May 27 will be the last Sunday to contribute to the fund for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.  At this point, it looks as if we are on track to meet the goal of contributing $1,000.00 towards each student’s Christian school tuition.  Thanks!

Retirement Open House:  You are invited to attend an open house for Jan Blunck and Larry Eggink on Sunday, May 27, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the commons area at PCHS.  We will celebrate Jan’s 27 total years of teaching, all at PCHS, and Larry’s 30 years at PCHS and total of 43 career teaching years as they retire this year.

Softball Memorial Day Breakfast:  Help support Pella Christian Softball by attending a breakfast May 28 from 7:00-10:00 a.m. at the Pella Christian High Cafeteria.  Free will donation.

You are invited to a Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast on Monday, May 28, from 7:00-10:00 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.  The meal includes pancakes, sausages, cinnamon rolls, fruit cup and drink, sponsored by the IGNITE Youth Group.  A freewill offering will be taken to help fund the IGNITE youth Group who is looking forward to a June trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with World Renew Disaster Response Services to address flood damage from March 2016, as well as the tornado in January 2017.

Please join us on Memorial Day from 7:00-10:00 a.m., at Sully Christian School for the Cadet Pancake Breakfast, serving scrambled eggs, sausage, blueberry and regular pancakes and toppings.  Freewill offering for the Sully Cadet Club.

You are invited to a Memorial Day Service at the Peoria Cemetery on Monday, May 28, at 9:00 a.m.  Speaker will be Senator Ken Rozenboom.  Please bring your lawn chairs.  Homemade cinnamon rolls, juice, and coffee will be served after the 30-minute service.  In case of inclement weather, location will be the Peoria Gym.

BUS DRIVERS NEEDED:  Pella Christian Grade School has several bus driver openings beginning with the 2018-19 school year.  Please contact Chris Fynaardt at fynaardtch@pellachristian.net for more information.

PCGS CUSTODIAN POSITION:   Pella Christian Grade School is seeking a part-time custodian for three hours a day.  This position will work three hours each evening or morning following a school day.  There are no additional responsibilities during summer breaks or days that school is not in session.  The candidate will work under the supervision of PCGS custodian, Kevin Stursma.  The candidate can choose the three-hour window in between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS CHALLENGE:  Pella Christian Grade School has a challenge for new gifts to be given toward the Soaring to New Heights fundraising project.  Any new gifts given between now and the last day of school on May 25 will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous donor.  Please fill out and turn in a donation form to have your new donation matched. With roughly $10.9 million pledged to our campaign, we’re only $100,000 away from completing phase three of the project. This is an amazing opportunity for us to close out phase three, and get a huge jump-start on phase four, the final phase of the building project.  Thank you to the over six hundred fifty donors who have already given to the project. Please prayerfully consider what you can give to help meet our goals and take advantage of this matching gift challenge. LAKE VIEW CAMP PRAYER SERVICE:  Everyone is invited to Lake View Camp  today, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. for a special service led by Joe Brummel to pray for the summer camping season as well as the work beginning on the new camp facilities. The camp will open at 2:00 p.m. for those who would like to explore the camp property or take a tour. Refreshments provided by Oskaloosa 1st CRC will be offered following the service as well as more property tours. This will be held outdoors so bring a lawn chair for seating.
