GROUNDWORK:  Consoling the Suffering – Sometimes our attempts to console suffering friends and loved ones with biblical truths do more harm than good.  Join Groundwork in studying Job 32-34 to discover where we might run into trouble, how we can more faithfully represent God, and more lovingly comfort the suffering.   Listen now at GroundworkOnline.com

AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – The Examen is a helpful daily prayer tool that Christians have used for hundreds of years to review their day in a godly way.  This is a great bedtime practice for people of all ages.  A simplified Examen looks like this:  First, pray that God will give you insight.  Then ask yourself two questions:  “What was I most grateful for today?” and “What was I least grateful for today?”  Close in prayer thanking God for the blessings of the day and asking God’s help with your shortcomings.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

Preparing to Receive the Bread and Cup   – (From Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 75, 80)

Pastor: Christ has commanded all believers to eat this broken bread and to drink this cup. These are signs that his body was offered and broken for us and his blood poured out for us on the cross, and that he nourishes and refreshes our souls for eternal life.

All: The Lord’s Supper declares to us that our sins have been completely forgiven through the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ which he himself finished on the cross once for all.

Pastor: The Lord’s Supper also declares to us that the Holy Spirit grafts us into Christ, who with his very body is now in heaven at the right hand of the Father where he wants us to worship him.

All: In thanks for Christ’s sacrifice, in the joy of his resurrection, in the hope of his coming again, we come to the table of our Lord.

OFFERINGSJune 21: Cary Christian Center;  June 28:  Crossroads of Pella;  July 5: World Renew

TODAY:  We welcome Rev. Dustin DeBoef who will be preaching this morning.  Dusty and his wife, Dawn, are the founders of Calvary’s Legacy Children’s Home in Legaspi City, Philippines (see the-legacy-home.org).

COMMUNION:  Communion is scheduled for the June 21 service.  Individual pre-filled and pre-sealed juice and wafer containers will be used, instead of the traditional passing of the elements, for health safety reasons.  For those not attending the June 21 in-person service, you may partake using your own juice and bread while participating in the Communion service via live stream.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathy to Ed Uitermarkt on the death of his sister-in-law, Delores Spoelstra, on June 5.  We rejoice in the hope of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.

We wish a happy birthday to Dena Bokhoven who will celebrate her 90th birthday on June 15 and pray for God’s continued blessings.

SUMMER MUSIC MINISTRY:  Even in the absence of Choir, anyone comfortable singing or playing a solo and/or in a small (“socially distanced”) group is encouraged to let Barbara Boertje DeVries know.  We are a “Psalm 150 People”, a congregation to whom God has generously given many musical talents, so let’s continue the theme: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Praise the Lord!

COUNCIL will meet on Monday, June 22.

OFFERING:  Our offering today will go to “Pella Christian Grade School Tuition Assistance (TAP Fund)”.  Our offering June 21 will go to “Cary Christian Center”.   Loose change and undesignated checks go towards the mission or organization of the week.  If you desire to contribute to Second Christian Reformed Church and its ministries, simply write “Pella 2” on the memo line of your check. You can also give online by scanning the QR code to the right or by going online to pella2crc.breezechms.com/give/online.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Our church is again partnering with the Pella Food Shelf in providing school supplies for local children going back to school.  Because of the challenging time for purchasing items this year, they suggest a cash donation.  If you wish to help purchase school supplies for needy children, please place your donation in an envelope marked “School Supplies” and put it in the offering plate, or mail it to church with “Attn: School Supplies” on the envelope. This needs to be received by July 12.

Doug and Benita Le Mahieu and family

AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – Although mealtime often serves as a reminder to pray, we can get into ruts about what to pray about.  Mealtime placemats like these downloadable versions from Flame Creative Children’s Ministry (tinyurl.com/FlamePlacemats) provide prompts for young children.  What might you include on a placemat for older children…or yourself?

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  “Thank you for the prayers, cards and support after the death of my Mother.  It was truly appreciated.” – Robert Rus

OFFERING:  The deacons would like to express our gratitude to the congregation for their continued support of the church during these difficult times.  Your generosity has been a blessing, especially as there are many great causes in need of funds in this time.  As we return to limited worship in person, we will again support outside causes as a reflection of the blessings we have received.

QR CodeOur offering today will go to the “General Fund”.

For those not in attendance for any reason, the below options will remain available:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.

Thank you again for your continued support. – Pella II Deacons

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK: I Believe in the Forgiveness of Sins – What is forgiveness?  How can God forgive and be just?  Join Groundwork as we study Psalm 103, 2 Corinthians 5:18-21, Romans 8:1-2, and 1 John 2:1-2 to discover the scriptures that lead us to declare with the Apostles’ Creed that we believe in “the forgiveness of sins.” Listen at GroundworkOnline.com.

KIDS CORNER: Mud, Bath, and Beyond – On the outskirts of Terrene, there are strange rumors of monsters emerging from the local mud pits.  How dangerous is it when Liz and his class go and investigate? Listen at kidscorner.net.

ASCENSION DAY (May 21) AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – Picture a kite soaring high in a summer sky.  “Even though we know scientifically how kites fly, there is still something magical, mysterious, beautiful, and special about the sight of a kite batting back and forth on an invisible breeze, tail twirling in the wind.  Talk about how the disciples must have felt seeing Jesus rise to heaven.  What emotions would they have felt (nervous, sad, excited, inspired?)”

Pella II CRC Announcements for May 10, 2020

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathy to Debbie Nelson and her family on the death of her husband, Tim, on May 5.  May God comfort them with the hope of eternal life in Jesus our Lord.

We wish a happy birthday to Bill Stursma who will celebrate his 91st birthday on May 15, and pray for God’s continued blessings.

MAY WORSHIP SERVICES:  Worship for May 10 will continue to be via recorded services online.  We are currently preparing for May 17 to be the first Sunday of in-person worship.  However, the health and safety of the congregation and community remain of utmost concern.  Marion County officials and the CDC have issued guidelines for public worship.  We are also in contact with other Pella area churches, and are monitoring public health developments.  Information from all of these sources is being taken into consideration in determining how and when Pella II will resume in-person worship.  When in-person worship re-opens, please expect changes before, during, and after the service in order to comply with current health and safety guidelines.  Advance communication will be sent regarding the safety measures being taken and the changes that those who choose to attend worship can expect.  We look forward to worshiping together in a manner that seeks to protect the health of the congregation and community.  We will keep the congregation informed via email and One Call on the plans for re-opening in-person worship. – Pella II Governing Board

OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PELLA II FINANCIALLY:

The Deacons request the congregation to continue to financially support Pella II during this time.  In light of the cancellations, three ways are available to provide financial support:

  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration – Pella II Deacons
