GROUNDWORK: All You Need – If you spend any time watching TV or trolling the internet, you’ll quickly discover there’s a lot you just can’t live without…at least according to advertisers.  Join Groundwork as we study the Apostle Paul’s reminder to early Christians and to us in 1 Thessalonians 1 that in Christ we have all we need in life. Listen now at GroundworkOnline.com.

KIDS CORNER: What Not to Wear – Lacey talks Lucille into buying clothes she knows her mother won’t want her to wear.  What happens when Lucille starts lying and hanging out with the wrong gang of kids?  What will Liz do? Listen now at kidscorner.net and subscribe to KC’s weekly emails for future episodes.  Download KC’s Collection of Memories Kit 2019 for a family activity today.

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION TIP – It’s true that faith is “caught” just as much as it’s “taught”.  Kids will learn to value Bible reading more if you let them “catch” you reading God’s Word on your own — not just in church or during family devotions.  Talk with them about what you’re reading and how it connects with your daily life.

BAPTISM OF COLTON COREY MAGNUSSEN

PREPARATION

What does baptism signify?

By it we are received into God’s church and set apart from all other people and religions, that we may be dedicated entirely to him, bearing his mark and sign.  It also witnesses to us that he will be our God forever, since he is our gracious Father.

What else does it mean?

Baptism signifies to us that just as water washes away the dirt of the body when it is poured on us and also is seen on the body of the baptized, so too the blood of Christ does the same thing internally, in the soul, by the Holy Spirit.

Should our children be baptized too?

Yes, we believe our children ought to be baptized and sealed with the sign of the covenant, as little children were circumcised in Israel on the basis of the same promises made to our children.  Christ has shed his blood no less for washing the little children of believers than he did for adults.

Is the significance of baptism, then, similar to circumcision?

Yes, baptism does for our children what circumcision did for the Jewish people. That is why Paul calls baptism the “circumcision of Christ.”

PRESENTATION

PROFESSION OF FAITH

   Questions for the parents.

   Question for the congregation.

.. Do you promise to love, encourage, and support these brothers and sisters by teaching the gospel of God’s love, by being an example of Christian faith and character, and by giving the strong support of God’s family in fellowship, prayer, and service?

.. Congregation:  We do.

Affirmation of Faith – the Apostles’ Creed

.. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

BAPTISM

DECLARATION, BLESSING, AND WELCOME

Brothers and sisters, we now receive Colton into Christ’s church.  Do you welcome him in love, and do you promise to pray for, encourage, and help nurture him in the faith?

Congregation:  We do, God helping us.

   Let us bless Colton together:

Congregation:  The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.  Amen.

How does Christ’s resurrection benefit us?

Second, by his power we too are already now resurrected to a new life.

Third, Christ’s resurrection is a guarantee of our glorious resurrection.
