Church School classes will meet from 10:50-11:35.

At 6:00 p.m. there will be a joint Reformation Day Celebration including several CRC churches at First Christian Reformed Church.  Dr. Kyle Dieleman, Assistant Professor of History at Trinity Christian College, will be bringing God’s Word, and there will be music by a joint choir.  A nursery will be provided and someone will be available to help with their elevator.  The offering is for Trinity Christian College.

NEXT SUNDAY: Next Sunday morning the congregation will be blessed with the joy of witnessing the baptism of Colton Corey Magnussen, son of Corey and Katie Magnussen.  May God be praised for His covenant faithfulness!

Next week is World Hunger Sunday.  Don’t forget your Peter Fish!

At 6:00 p.m. First CRC and Faith CRC will join us for worship at our church.  Pastor Ryan Faber will preach on John 11:25-26, “I Am the resurrection and the Life”.

Christian Fellowship Hour will meet at 1:30 p.m. to study Lesson 17. Our Fall Project offering for Hope Ministries and Crossroads of Pella will be taken again at this meeting.  All ladies are welcome and encouraged to join us.

Children’s Choir (1st-6th graders) will meet from 6:30-6:55 p.m.

GEMS will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Cadets will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Adult Choir will meet from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Christmas Musical Rehearsal is 8:00-9:00 p.m.

NEED LEAVES RAKED?  The Cadets will be raking leaves this coming Saturday afternoon, November 3.  If you have a yard or know of a yard that could use some leaf removal, please contact Shane Tukker (303-827-4085) or any other Cadet counselor.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING:  There will be a Congregational Meeting on Monday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m.  We will vote on changing future property locations (as mentioned in the last Council Chat), the 2019 Budget, and select new office bearers.  People having accepted the nomination for Elders are Les Nieuwsma, Calvin Van Haaften, Bill Wilson and Jason Van Arendonk.  People having accepted the nomination for Deacon are Jamis Christensen, Jason Van Hal, Jacob Vaverka and Brent Van Kooten.

C4C LEADER SIGN-UP:  There is a sign-up sheet downstairs for those that would like to lead or help with C4C throughout the year.  There is very little prep involved, and anyone, middle school age or older, is welcome to take a turn!

DESSERT WITH THE BRADFORDS:  We would like to invite our new church family to have coffee and dessert with us at the parsonage in order to get to know everyone better and to hear your hopes and dreams for Pella 2. There are several “Dessert with the Bradfords” gatherings scheduled this fall; note that two new dates have been added — Saturday morning, November 17, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and Thursday evening, December 13 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Middle School and High School youths are also welcome to join us. We have room for 12 adults and/or youths at each gathering.

THANKSGIVING MEAL BOXES:  The Pella Food Shelf is again making Thanksgiving Meal Boxes to give to local families.  Pella II’s challenge this year is to bring 200 cans of peaches for these boxes by November 11.  Mission/Outreach challenges each household to participate by bringing some cans of peaches.

SOUND OPERATORS (and anyone interested in being a part of this important ministry):  A sound training event will be held at Third Reformed Church on Saturday, November 3, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  Please contact Barbara Boertje DeVries by this Tuesday if you are interested in attending.

THANK YOU:  The PC Eagles football program thanks all who came out to support us at our pancake breakfast on October 20.  The freewill donations given will go toward equipment and other items needed for the football program.  Special thanks go to Bonnie and Doug for all of their help and to the Lion’s Club for the use their pancake grill.

PCHS ANNUAL FINANCIAL DRIVE:  The Pella Christian High School Annual Financial Drive is currently underway.  The goal for this year is $75,000 to be used to support the general fund of the school.  You received a letter in your church mailbox last week explaining the drive.  Donations can be sent directly to the school office at 300 Eagle Lane or given to any board member.  Thank you for your ongoing support of the mission of PCHS.

PELLA CHRISTIAN GRADE SCHOOL OPENINGS:  PCGS has an immediate opening for a one-on-one teacher aide for a lower elementary student for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. A current Iowa teaching or para-educator certificate is desired, but not required. PCGS has an opening for a kindergarten aide. SATURDAY:  Cat Fish fry at Faith CRC serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  There will also be chicken and all the trimmings.  Free will donation for Cary Christian Center.  There will be four people from the Cary Christian Center there to visit with.  If you are able to help at the Fish Fry they would appreciate four people to help serve at 5:30 and then help clean up.   Please sign up on the sheet downstairs or let Ruth know if you can help.

PCHS FALL MUSICAL:  PCHS’s theatre season opens with one of Broadway’s most popular musicals, Oklahoma!, to be performed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 25-27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Vermeer Auditorium at PCHS.  Tickets sales continue in the school office, or call 628-4440.  Adult tickets are $10; $6 for children.  PCHS students attend free, but do need to reserve a seat at the school box office.

IT’S TIME TO FEED THE FISH!  Peter Fish will be handed out after the morning service today.  We will collect them on November 4, World Hunger Sunday.  The proceeds go to World Renew’s efforts to fight hunger everywhere.

PCHS ANNUAL FINANCIAL DRIVE:  It is time for the Annual Financial Drive for the Pella Christian High School.  The purpose of this drive is to support the general fund of the school.  The goal for this year’s drive is $75,000.  We ask you to prayerfully consider a gift to the school.  A letter explaining the drive is in your mailbox today.  Thank you in advance for your faithful support of the mission of Pella Christian High.

PCGS OPENING:  Pella Christian Grade School has an immediate opening for a one-on-one teacher aide for 2018-19 school year.  The person in this position would provide services to a lower elementary student.  A current Iowa teaching certificate or paraeducator certificate is desired, but not required, for this opening.  Applicants should complete the application and sign the statement of faith.  Interested applicants can view the employment portion of our school website pellachristian.net or contact David Te Grotenhuis at tegrotenhuisd@pellachristian.net for more information.

There are several “Dessert with the Bradfords” gatherings scheduled this fall, each will be on a Tuesday or Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Middle School and High School youths are also welcome to join us. We have room for 12 adults and/or youths at each gathering.

GEMS REQUEST YOUR HELP!  The GEMS Girl’s club is once again collecting hygiene items to include in the BackPack program.  The BackPack program provides kids with extra food for the weekend and now includes hygiene items twice a year so kids can feel their best at school.  A sign-up sheet is located in the basement and we ask that items be dropped off in the basement by next Sunday, October 21.

THANKSGIVING MEAL BOXES:  The Pella Food Shelf is again making Thanksgiving Meal Boxes to give to local families.  Pella II’s challenge this year is to bring 200 cans of peaches for these boxes by November 11.  Mission/Outreach challenges each household to participate by bringing cans of peaches.

PCHS ALUMNI FOOTBALL NIGHT:   All Pella Christian High School alumni are invited to attend the home football game against Interstate 35 this Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.  Look for the large tent just north of the grandstand where you will receive an alumni decal, register for prizes and enjoy free hot chocolate and snacks.  We will be recognizing the different eras of graduates during the evening and provide a cozy spot for you to rub elbows with fellow PCHS alum.  This is for adults only, please.

PATHWAYS OF PELLA annual Fall Fundraising Banquet is this Saturday, October 20, at Federated Fellowship, Pella, beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The event is free (opportunity for financial support will be given). GEMS REQUEST YOUR HELP!  The GEMS Girl’s club is once again collecting hygiene items to include in the BackPack program.  The BackPack program provides kids with extra food for the weekend and now includes hygiene items twice a year so kids can feel their best at school.  A sign-up sheet is located in the basement and we ask that items be dropped off in the basement by Sunday, October 21.

DESSERT WITH THE BRADFORDS:  We would like to invite our new church family to have coffee and dessert with us at the parsonage in order to get to know everyone better and to hear your hopes and dreams for Pella 2. There are several “Dessert with the Bradfords” gatherings scheduled this fall, each will be on a Tuesday or Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Middle School and High School youths are also welcome to join us. We have room for 12 adults and/or youths at each gathering.

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION SEMINAR:  Living Into Our Faith – One Generation to the Next – The home is the most important influence on a child’s faith.  But talking about faith does not come easily to every parent or caregiver, and in today’s busy families, time is not always a friend.  How can the church support families in teaching their children how to live into their faith?

Peoria CRC invites you to a seminar on Saturday, October 6, 7:00 p.m. at Peoria Christian School gym on Family Faith Formation led by Trudy Ash from Faith Formation Ministries. She will be sharing a new practical resource on Family Faith Formation as well as walk through some basic shifts in our thinking that have the potential to build a stronger, more vibrant faith formation culture in your congregation.  All are welcome!  There is no charge and coffee will be provided.

Justin Van Zee, missionary to Cambodia, will be preaching in our morning service on October 14.  He will have an additional presentation about his work in the sanctuary after the worship service.

Fall Music Concert:  On Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m., the Pella Christian High School Music Department will showcase its large performing ensembles at the annual Fall Concert.  The Marching Band, Concert Choir and Cantabile will perform a variety of music in the school auditorium.  Come and enjoy the musical gifts of our Pella Christian High School students.  A bake sale will also be held before and after the concert.  The sale will begin at 6:00 p.m. with all proceeds going to the Music Department.

Save the Date:  New Life Prison Community Church will be sponsoring a free Christian Concert on Saturday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m.  Jeff Arrandale Band will be playing at Grace Fellowship in Pella.  A free-will offering will be taken for New Life.

You are invited to help celebrate Faith Christian Reformed Church’s 50th anniversary on October 14 at 9:30 a.m.  A special service is planned with past pastors participating.  A light lunch will follow the service.

PCHS Alumni Football Night:  This is an invitation to all Pella Christian High School alumni to attend the home football game against Interstate 35 on October 19 at 7:00 p.m.  We will be recognizing the different eras of graduates throughout the evening and there will be a large tent set up north of the grandstands where you can catch up with other PCHS alum and enjoy free hot chocolate and snacks.  This is for adults only please.

Pathways of Pella will have their annual Fall Fundraising Banquet on October 20.  The event is free (opportunity for financial support will be given) and will be held at Federated Fellowship, Pella, beginning at 6:00 p.m.  You will hear from Senator Amy Sinclair on the importance of Prolife legislation, and also about the changes made at Pathways of Pella this year.  This year’s theme is Rustic Elegance.  Join us for an evening out with food, fellowship and fun.  To reserve your spot call 628-4827 or email marilyn@pathwayspella.org by October 15.

Wycliffe Banquet – Want to learn about the latest techniques in Bible translation?  Interested in knowing more about the work of Wycliffe?  An Event Celebrating the Power of God’s Word may be for you.  This is a banquet to be held at Central College (Graham Annex) at 6:00 p.m. on October 20 where you can enjoy good food and fellowship while hearing how God is using Wycliffe to bring the Bible to more people in their mother tongue and how you can help.  The banquet is free, but you need to make your reservations before October 13 by calling Frances at 628-2587 or Kathleen De Haan at 628-1739.

PCHS Fall Musical:  PCHS’s theatre season opens with one of Broadway’s most popular musicals, Oklahoma!, to be performed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 25-27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Vermeer Auditorium at PCHS.  Now in its 75th year, Oklahoma! was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, earning several Academy Awards for its 1955 film adaptation. Tickets go on sale October 15 in the school office or by calling 628-4440.  Adult tickets are $10 with $6 for children.  PCHS students attend free, but do need to reserve a seat at the school box office.

FROM THE COUNCIL:  As we are preparing to nominate and select church officers for 2019 we respectfully request that any potential nominees be given to current church officers for inclusion in that process.  Nominees should be provided by the end of today – Sunday, September 23.

FREEDOM HOUSE TRAINING – September 25, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Third Reformed Church.  This training will focus on developing the knowledge of what human trafficking is as well as developing skills for how to best work with victims and survivors of human trafficking.  We have room for 35 people.   The training is free, and $10 for lunch at Third’s Café.  If you are wanting to volunteer at the Freedom House, this will qualify for part of your training.  To secure your spot, send $10 to P. DESSERT WITH THE BRADFORDS:  We would like to invite our new church family to have coffee and dessert with us at the parsonage in order to get to know everyone better and to hear your hopes and dreams for Pella 2. There are several “Dessert with the Bradfords” gatherings scheduled this fall, each will be on a Tuesday or Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Middle School and High School youths are also welcome to join us. We have room for 12 adults and/or youths at each gathering.

Family Faith Formation Seminar:  Living Into Our Faith – One Generation to the Next – The home is the most important influence on a child’s faith.  But talking about faith does not come easily to every parent or caregiver, and in today’s busy families, time is not always a friend.  How can the church support families in teaching their children how to live into their faith?  Peoria CRC invites you to a seminar on Saturday, October 6, 7:00 p.m. at Peoria Christian School gym on Family Faith Formation led by Trudy Ash from Faith Formation Ministries. She will be sharing a new practical resource on Family Faith Formation as well as walk through some basic shifts in our thinking that have the potential to build a stronger, more vibrant faith formation culture in your congregation.  All are welcome!  There is no charge and coffee will be provided.

Freedom House Training – September 25, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Third Reformed Church.  This training will focus on developing the knowledge of what human trafficking is as well as developing skills for how to best work with victims and survivors of human trafficking.  We have room for 35 people.   The training is free, and $10 for lunch at Third’s Café.  If you are wanting to volunteer at the Freedom House, this will qualify for part of your training.  To secure your spot, send $10 to P. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness): Does your child or adolescent struggle with emotional or behavioral difficulties? We have a resource for you — a free, six-session program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties. We help parents and other family caregivers understand the illnesses that are causing those behavioral difficulties, and the family’s critical role in helping with the treatment of those illnesses. MUSIC MINISTRY NOTES:

Adult Choir’s first weekly rehearsal of the fall will be this Wednesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m.  New and returning Choir members are encouraged to join us!

ADULT CHOIR CHILD CARE continues to be a need!  Two ways for you to please consider helping if you will not be singing:  Volunteer to help in the nursery by signing up (sheet located on table in basement) and/or financially support hiring help from outside our congregation. KINGDOM KIDS SIGN-UP:  Do you have a 4-year-old through 1st grader that would like to join us on Wednesdays for Kingdom Kids?  This year we are learning about “What Jesus Means to Me” – worship, giving, stewardship, thankfulness, obedience, and sharing with others about Jesus – how we show Jesus we love Him and spread His love to others.  Your boys and girls will enjoy crafts, snacks and other activities.  We meet twice a month (schedule will be given) on Wednesdays, 5:30-6:50, in the big room on the third floor.  Sign-Up sheets are in the basement and in the foyer at the entry, or you can call/text Arlys at 641-780-1967 with your information.  Start date is September 19!  Arlys, Carla and Les are looking forward to seeing you!

OFFERING OF SEPT. 30 EXPLANATION:  One way the PCGS Board provides tuition assistance to families is through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).  The board’s desire is that Christian Education be an affordable option for all families.  This program is available to all PCGS families and is needs-based assistance.  This year approximately $100,000 will be awarded to qualifying families.  To learn more about PCGS’s tuition assistance options visit www.pellachristian.net

ADVANCE NOTICES:

College Planning Night – On Monday, September 10, parents of juniors and seniors at Pella Christian High School are invited to a presentation and question/answer session about navigating the college admission and financial aid process.  This information will be especially valuable for parents who have had no experience with the process previously.  We will meet in the school library at 7:00 p.m.

You are invited to an open house at The Well to learn about all of the resources and new programs available to community members.  Tour different resource booths, and hear about The Well’s vision moving forward, as the Lord continues to serve His people through The Well!  We hope you can join us on September 13 between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. for light appetizers, and a brief program at 5:30 p.m. This is open to ANYONE interested in participating in a program, or learning more about the new programs being offered this fall.

Intergenerational Worship Workshop in Sioux Falls, S.D. – Join Faith Formation Ministries at First CRC on September 29 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. to learn about the importance of spiritual formation in the home.  Syd Hielema and Jill Friend will present on four important topics intended to help us strengthen both our families and church: connecting dots between worship, home and other church ministries; strengthening and growing an intergenerational (IGEN) leadership culture, naming and nurturing strengths already present in the congregation and faith storytelling ideas that will bless an IGEN culture.  Registration is free and lunch will be provided.  Learn more and register at network.crcna.org/faith-nurture/intergenerational-worship-workshop-sioux-falls-sd

PCHS VOAG/FFA APPRECIATION DINNER:  PCHS’s new VoAg/FFA program begins this fall!  As a thank you, they would invite those who have supported this effort financially to an Appreciation Supper at the high school at 6:00 p.m. on September 6.  You will be treated to supper, hear about the start of the program, and meet the students, instructor, and ag advisory committee.

PCGS FALL FUNDRAISER EVENT – Please come join us on Friday, September 7, at the Pella Sports Complex (just east of PCHS) from 5:00-9:30 p.m. for a night of fun, food, and fellowship.  Multiple activities will be taking place, including a middle school softball tournament, kickball for preschool through 5th grade, and other activities (laser tag, inflatables, and face painting).  Supper will be served at the concession stand along with snacks, pie and ice cream.  Donations will be accepted through the office leading up to the event or at the event itself, and all proceeds will go to Pella Christian Grade School.  Please bring a chair, and come be part of the fun!

THE GOSPEL SINGERS MALE CHORUS is beginning their 49th year this season.  We are always looking for new members.  If you think that you might be interested, please join us for our first rehearsal on Saturday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m.  Our rehearsal will be held at First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.

SUB SANDWICHES:  Peoria Christian School is selling sub sandwiches again this year.  There are two types — Ham and Pella Bologna with Swiss and American cheese, or Ham and Turkey with Swiss and American cheese.  Sandwiches are $3 each or $36 for 13.  Along with the subs this year we are also selling Butter Braid pastries and Wooden Spoon cookie dough.  Orders are due Monday, September 10.  Orders can be emailed to emvangorp@iowatelecom.net or mvhart77@gmail.com or by calling the school (625-4131).  For questions on the Butter Braids or cookie dough contact Suzy Veenstra, 7808856.  Orders can be picked up at the school on September 26 after 4:00 p.m.
