OFFERINGSSeptember 27:  Ministry Shares

TODAY:  This morning the congregation will be blessed with the joy of witnessing the baptisms of Elsie Marie, daughter of Zach and Stacia Veenstra, and Theo Jay, son of Will and Taylor Vande Voort. May God be praised for His covenant faithfulness!

Today the church picnic and outdoor service will be held at Caldwell Park (across from the tennis courts on University Street).  Come at about 11:45 for lunch and enjoy a meal already prepared for you, followed by a praise and worship service. We will be doing the best we can with social distancing. Please bring your mask. Dinnerware will be provided; bring your own lawn chair to use during worship.

NEXT SUNDAY:  Dave Stevenson will be leading our worship service next Sunday.

Church School will begin for the year on September 27.  Due to coronavirus, it will look a little different this year.  Three-year-olds through 5th grade will meet on the third floor, and 6th through 12th graders will meet in the back of the sanctuary, near the sound booth.  Both classes will run from 10:45-11:05.

WEDNESDAY: Christian Fellowship Hour will meet at 1:30 p.m.  All ladies are welcome to join us!

Our Cadet Club will be hosting its annual Pork Patty BBQ on September 23 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The menu includes pork patty sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, chips, desserts, and beverages.  The supper will be held outside on the church’s lawn.  Meals can also be packaged for to-go orders.  Free will donations will be accepted.  The funds raised will help the club pay for activities, campouts, supplies. etc.

Adult Choir will practice in the sanctuary, 6:45-8:00 p.m. (Note time change.) Please bring masks to wear while singing.  New members are welcome! Contact Barbara Boertje DeVries at (worship@pella2crc.org) for more information.

GEMS will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

NURSERY:  The nursery is open for use, but remains unstaffed for now.  If there is anyone (individuals or couples) currently willing to help out in the nursery on a rotating basis, please contact Sarah Christensen at sarah.christensen88@gmail.com or 641-780-8855.

BABY GIFTS:  There is a table located in the entryway for anyone who wishes to bring a baby gift to welcome David Alexander, son of Dave and Ashley Voss, born August 21. – Sponsored by the Quilting Small Group

COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT – Parents of juniors and seniors are invited to the annual Fall College Planning Night on Monday, September 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the library.  Mr. Engbers will review the college application and campus visiting process, talk about current trends in career planning, and give some college scholarship search tips.  This information may be especially valuable to parents preparing to send their first student off to college in the coming years, but anyone is welcome to attend!

PARENTS:  A live video with audio of our service is being projected on a large screen TV in the Fellowship Hall in the basement.  If you have a restless child or an infant who needs attention, please feel free to go downstairs.  You’ll be able to watch and hear everything that’s happening in the Worship Center.  Even if you’re not a parent and just need to move around, you are welcome to come down and watch as well.

  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

PEORIA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL is looking for a facilitator on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-1:30 p.m. to help in the 1st/2nd grade classroom.  If you would like to help or would like to know more information, contact Jeremy Copenhaver at principal@peoriachr.org.

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Join local family, Stephen and Lacey Henderson and their daughter Estella, on Sunday, October 4, between 1:00-3:00 p.m. for a 5K event, One Million Steps for a Cure to End AHC.  Estella (22 months) has a rare disease called AHC and this event will help raise money for research to find a cure.  This will be held at the Pella Christian High School parking lot, and a 5K route will be available to walk, run or bike.  There is no official start time, and there is more information available on Estella’s Facebook page, END AHC for Estella, or on her donation website https://ahckids.z2systems.com/estellah.  To register for the race (free), go to www.ahckids.org/race and learn more about AHC and how to donate to the AHCF (Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation) to END AHC.
