FROM PELLA II COUNCIL: Friends, as we prepare for the upcoming vote there has been much discussion about the situation surrounding the use of absentee ballots. As previously shared we used outside legal counsel (an independent attorney) during the Vision Team stage of the merger process and have been advised that we cannot use absentee ballots in matters where our by-laws are under consideration for change. This was discussed during the Vision Team work process and it was again confirmed on Wednesday, September 20. In this case the creation of a merged church would require a change in our current by-laws and as a result we cannot accept absentee ballots. This is a legal matter and not one that the council of Pella II can choose to ignore. While we would like to include all of the voices from Pella II we have committed to remain true to the merge process and as a result will follow the legal guidance as provided.
