Professing What We Believe – from Belgic Confession, Article 28 (read in unison)……….

We believe that since this holy assembly and congregation is the gathering of those who are saved and there is no salvation apart from it, people ought not to withdraw from it, content to be by themselves, regardless of their status or condition.

But all people are obliged to join and unite with it, keeping the unity of the church by submitting to its instruction and discipline, by bending their necks under the yoke of Jesus Christ, and by serving to build up one another, according to the gifts God has given them as members of each other in the same body.

And so, all who withdraw from the church or do not join it act contrary to God’s ordinance.

TODAY:  We welcome Dave Stevenson and Gerald Van Dusseldorp, who are assisting us in our worship today.

Church School will begin for the year today.  Due to coronavirus, it will look a little different this year.  Three-year-olds through 5th grade will meet on the third floor, and 6th through 12th graders will meet in the back of the sanctuary, near the sound booth.  Both classes will run from 10:45-11:05.

NEXT SUNDAY:  We look forward to celebrating the Lord’s Supper on World Communion Sunday next Sunday morning.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathy to Dave and Brenda Klyn, Debra Klyn, Sylvia Langstraat, Marion and Glenda Klyn, Sid and Mary Klyn and Les and Linda Klyn on the death of their father and brother, Ray Klyn, on September 20, and to Ron and Lola Spoelstra on the death of their brother-in-law, Melvin Slagter on September 17 in Florida.  We rejoice in the hope of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.

We wish a happy birthday to Cathryn Van Ee who will celebrate her 90th birthday on October 1, and to Mary Klyn who will celebrate her 86th birthday on October 4 and pray for God’s blessings on them.

MONDAY:  Our bi-monthly congregational prayer meeting is tomorrow, September 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Weather and construction permitting, we will meet on our new building site.  Bring your own lawn chair.  We will put our chairs on the slab in what will be our new worship center, sitting six feet apart.  If needed we’ll meet at our existing building in the fellowship hall.  An update will go out on One Call on Monday morning confirming where we’ll meet.

WEDNESDAY: Adult Choir will practice 7:15-8:15 p.m. Please bring masks.  For more information, contact Barbara Boertje DeVries at worship@pella2crc.org.

MASK PRECAUTIONS:  At the end of August, worship attendees were asked to wear face masks while singing in an effort to help protect the health of the congregation.  As the virus case numbers remain higher than earlier in the year, we ask worship attendees to continue to wear face masks while singing.  This will be in effect until further notice.  For attendees who do not wish to wear masks, please either hum or listen reflectively without singing.  Pandemic developments are being actively monitored.  When conditions warrant, we look forward to announcing easement of some of these precautions.  Thank you for helping to show love and care for your neighbor. – Governing Board

LIVE VIDEO: During this morning’s service a live video with audio of the service is projected on a large screen TV in the Fellowship Hall in the basement for parents or others who need to leave during the service.  Restrooms are available downstairs.  Our services are also live streamed and recorded each Sunday on YouTube, which can be found at bit.ly/Pella2.

NURSERY:  The nursery is open for use, but remains unstaffed for now.  If there is anyone (individuals or couples) currently willing to help out in the nursery on a rotating basis, please contact Sarah Christensen at sarah.christensen88@gmail.com or 641-780-8855.

BABY GIFTS:  There is a table located in the entryway for anyone who wishes to bring a baby gift to welcome David Alexander, son of Dave and Ashley Voss, born August 21. – Sponsored by the Quilting Small Group

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK:  Blood, Sacrifices, and Forgiveness – We don’t offer sacrifices anymore.  Join Groundwork in studying Leviticus 16:6-16, Leviticus 17:10-14, Hebrews 10:1-14, and Romans 3:21-26 with Groundwork to understand why the sacrificial system informs our relationship with God. Listen at GroundworkOnline.com.

KIDS CORNER: Cheer Up Chamy – It’s time to rally the troops!  Chamy needs everyone’s help.  It’s up to Liz and Lucille and the gang to cheer her up after her parents’ divorce.  But how exactly do you do that?  Listen at kidscorner.net.  Download God’s Got You Covered, an eBook to help kids and parents talk about divorce.  (https://kidscorner.net/activities).

At-Home Faith Formation Tip – The Practice of Sabbath:  In Rhythms of Rest, Shelly Miller writes, “God’s creation is a life-giving inhale for all of us, and Sabbath is the exhale.”  Wherever you are today, find a bit of God’s creation to enjoy as you take time to “exhale”.  Look at a leaf with a magnifying glass.  Sit and watch birds in flight.  Look at the clouds overhead.  Quiet your busy mind.   Then read Psalm 148 for a taste of how all creation praises God.
