BAPTISMS OF MASON SAMUEL YODER and LANE HENRY BOENDER

PREPARATION

What does baptism signify?

By it we are received into God’s church and set apart from all other people and religions, that we may be dedicated entirely to him, bearing his mark and sign.  It also witnesses to us that he will be our God forever, since he is our gracious Father.

What else does it mean?

Baptism signifies to us that just as water washes away the dirt of the body when it is poured on us and also is seen on the body of the baptized, so too the blood of Christ does the same thing internally, in the soul, by the Holy Spirit.

Should our children be baptized too?

Yes, we believe our children ought to be baptized and sealed with the sign of the covenant, as little children were circumcised in Israel on the basis of the same promises made to our children.  Christ has shed his blood no less for washing the little children of believers than he did for adults.

PRESENTATION

PROFESSION OF FAITH

   Questions for the parents.

   Question for the congregation.

.. Do you promise to love, encourage, and support these families and their children by teaching the gospel of God’s love, by being an example of Christian faith and character, and by giving the strong support of God’s family in fellowship, prayer, and service?

.. Congregation:  We do, God helping us.

Affirmation of Faith – the Apostles’ Creed

.. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

DECLARATION, BLESSING, AND WELCOME

Brothers and sisters, we now receive Mason and Lane into Christ’s church.  Do you welcome them in love, and do you promise to pray for, encourage, and help nurture them in the faith?

Congregation:  We do.

Let us bless Mason and Lane together:

Congregation:  The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.  Amen.

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK: We Are the Family of God – In an “us vs. them” culture, the image of the Church as God’s family encourages us to remember our oneness.  Join Groundwork as we study Acts 17:24-28, Ephesians 2:11-18, and Romans 8:14-17, 31-35 to be assured of the Father’s great love and what it means to be part of God’s family.

KIDS CORNER: Be Content – The curtain opens at the Clubhouse theater with two new plays about being happy and content.  How do you find happiness? Listen now at kidscorner.net.

AT-HOME FAMILY FAITH FORMATION TIP: Thankfulness is an important faith practice.  Each day between now and Thanksgiving, notice the things in your life that you can give thanks for.  Write those things on slips of paper and collect them in a jar or box to read during your Thanksgiving celebration.  Also visit tinyurl.com/ThanksPsalms for some beautiful Psalm printables you can use to decorate your Thanksgiving table.
