TODAY:   This morning the congregation will be blessed with the joy of witnessing the baptism of Kaiya Supaluck Van Wyngarden, daughter of Will and Allison Van Wyngarden. May God be praised for His covenant faithfulness!

We thank the Van Wyngarden Family for leading our singing this morning.

Church School meets from 10:45-11:05 today.

NEXT SUNDAY:  Next Sunday morning Doug and Benita Le Mahieu plan to join us and will speak briefly during the service about their mission in Papua New Guinea. They will also have a presentation immediately after the service through the church school time.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY:  We extend our Christian sympathies to Joyce Vander Molen in the death of her brother-in-law, Larry Engbers, on November 8, and to the family of Gertrude Wassink who died on November 10.  We rejoice in the hope of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.

We wish a happy birthday to Viola De Vries who will celebrate her 87th birthday on November 21, and pray for God’s continued blessings.

“We wish to “thank you” all who remembered us in many ways due to the passing of our sister.  All the visits to the Grinnell Nursing Home for the last five years made memories for us.” – Ken and Esther Van Gent

MONDAY:  The annual congregational meeting is scheduled for November 16 at 7:00 p.m.  The agenda includes: 1. Selection by lot of Council positions, 2. Vote on the 2021 church budget, 3. Updates from the Council, and 4. Sneak preview of the Cornerstone Church logo.

THANKSGIVING FOOD OFFERING:  Nonperishable food items will again be collected at our Thanksgiving Day service for Pella’s Food Shelf.  There will be a table at the bottom of the steps inside the east entrance where you can place the food.

THANKSGIVING DAY:  You are encouraged to submit what you are thankful for in one or two sentences/words.  You have received or will receive instructions from Pastor Paul, sent by email and regular mail.  These items will be read by two readers at our Thanksgiving service.

CANDLELIGHT SERVICES:  Three identical candlelight services are being arranged in order to accommodate more attendees while maintaining social distancing guidelines.  The tentative times are: Saturday, December 12 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  A ticketing process is being planned to help guarantee seating.

To assist in planning, a survey will be sent to the congregation via email requesting the service time you prefer to attend as well as the number of persons in your group.  For those without internet, a paper survey form will be provided to you.  Tickets for each service will be issued and given to attendees, taking into consideration responses to the survey.  A response to the survey is required in order to receive a ticket.  Tickets will be required in order to be admitted to a candlelight service.  Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we work to accommodate as many attendees as feasible. – Governing Board

PANDEMIC PRECAUTIONS:  The health and safety of the congregation is of utmost concern, especially as the COVID infection numbers continue to increase.  Based on a review of pandemic precautions taken by other Pella churches, as well as information from government and health authorities, our church’s updated protocol for worship service attendees is:

  • Face masks are required to be worn while singing, as we have since the end of August.
  • Masks are now recommended to be worn while inside the church building.  This is in order to help fight further spread of the virus.
  • For clarity, masks are not required with the exception of singing.  Worship attendees who do not wish to wear masks, please either hum or listen reflectively without singing.
  • Six-foot social distancing guidelines between family groups when in the church building remains in effect.

Thank you for your understanding and support of the precautionary measures being taken.  These are regularly reviewed.  The goal is to provide a safe environment, where we can focus on worshipping God and demonstrate Christ-like concern for our neighbor.  –  Governing Board

HELP WANTED:  Looking for someone heading to the southwest and able to transport quilts to Rehoboth, NM.  They must arrive there by December 14 so the students can give them to families in need. Contact Ron Zwiers (628-2219 or zwiers@iowatelecom.net).

HYMN/SONG REQUESTS, ANYONE?  Even though “social distancing” has made it a challenge to stay connected, please be assured that you have not been forgotten!  Choir members and other musicians would be happy to serenade you with a hymn or song that’s meaningful to you, even if over the phone.  Contact Barbara Boertje DeVries with ideas, requests, and/or for encouragement!

LIVE VIDEO: During this morning’s service a live video with audio of the service is projected on a large screen TV in the Fellowship Hall in the basement for parents or others who need to leave during the service.  Restrooms are available downstairs.  Our services are also live streamed and recorded each Sunday on YouTube, bit.ly/Pella2.
